What these numbers mean

A range like SAT 1200–1400 means a quarter of the college's first-year students who sent scores had 1200 or less, and a quarter had 1400 or more. Being inside the range is a good sign, not a promise; being below it is not a no. Many colleges are test-optional, so the students who send scores tend to be the ones with higher scores.

SAT totals here add the Reading and Writing and the Math ranges, so they are close to, but not exactly, the range of total scores.

Questions people ask

Where do these scores come from?

From the U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard (data release 06/10/2026), which reports what each college sends to the federal IPEDS survey. Colleges that report no scores are left out.

What is a good SAT score?

It depends on the colleges you want. Find each one here: if your score is at or above the middle of its range, your scores are a strength in that application.

Do colleges accept the CLT instead of the SAT or ACT?

Yes, 211 of the colleges on this page are on the CLT's list of colleges that accept it (cltexam.com, read October 29, 2026). Each college's page says whether it is on that list and shows the CLT score that matches its SAT range.
