Privacy policy

Owl Test Prep collects as little as it can, never sells anything about you, and shows no ads.

Last updated October 29, 2026

Without an account

You can use every free practice question and the free full tests without an account. Your answers, scores and settings are then saved only in your own browser (its local storage). They never reach us, and clearing your browser's data deletes them.

We count visits and actions (for example "a full test was finished today") as daily totals with no name, email, address or device ID attached, so we can see what helps students.

With an account

An account holds your email address, the name you choose to show (optional), your practice (answers, times, scores, notes, saved words and settings), and, if you add one, a parent's or teacher's email address for the weekly report.

We use them only to run the site for you: to save your practice across devices, to send the sign-in links and the weekly report you asked for, and to unlock a pass you bought.

We set one cookie, which keeps you signed in (plus a second one that lasts ten minutes while you use "Continue with Google"). Neither is used to follow you anywhere else.

Weekly leagues

Signed-in students can join a weekly league: a table of up to 30 students ranked by the practice points earned that week. Other students see only your first name (or "Owl" and a short code if you set none) and your points, never your email, scores or answers. There is no chat or messaging of any kind.

Leagues can be turned off in Settings, and a parent with Owl Family can turn them off for a child.

Payments

Passes are paid through Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them. Stripe tells us the email, the pass bought, the amount and whether it was refunded. Stripe's own privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.

Ask Owl-y and essay feedback

When you ask Owl-y a question or ask for essay feedback, the question you were working on, its explanation, your message (or your essay) and the conversation so far are sent to Anthropic, which runs the AI model, to write the answer. Under Anthropic's commercial terms this content is not used to train its models.

We do not send your name or email with it. Please do not type personal information into Ask Owl-y or an essay.

We keep a count of how many Ask Owl-y questions and essay reviews each account used each day, to apply the free limits.

Who else handles your data

Only the companies that run parts of the site for us, each for that job alone: Cloudflare (hosting and the database), Stripe (payments), Amazon Web Services (sending email), Anthropic (Ask Owl-y) and, if you choose "Continue with Google", Google (signing in). We do not sell, rent or share personal information with anyone else, and there is no advertising on the site.

Students under 13

The site has practice for every age: spelling for young children, grades 7 to 10, and the CLT and SAT for high school. A student under 13 may practice without an account, which sends us nothing personal. An account for a student under 13 must be created by a parent or guardian, for example by adding the child under a Family Pass. A parent who believes we hold a child's information without consent can write to us and we will delete it.

Keeping and deleting

Your account and practice stay until you delete them. "Delete my account", in the account menu, removes your account, your saved practice and any parent email from our database at once. Records of purchases are kept for seven years, because tax law requires it. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes, and signed-in sessions after 180 days.

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or to correct it, by writing to us.

Email

We send only what you ask for: sign-in links, receipts and, if a parent email is set, one weekly report. Every weekly report has a one-click unsubscribe link.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so on the site before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
