CLT vs SAT vs ACT, side by side
All three are accepted by many colleges. They differ in what they ask you to read, whether you get a calculator, and how long you get per question.

Is the CLT easier than the SAT?
Neither test is officially easier. The difference is the kind of work (our reading of the formats):
- Math: the CLT gives about 67 seconds a question with no calculator; the SAT gives about 95 seconds a question with a graphing calculator. Students who are quick by hand may prefer the CLT.
- Reading: the CLT asks for sustained close reading of older prose; the SAT asks one question per short passage. Strong readers of classic texts tend to feel at home on the CLT.
- Pacing: the CLT's 120 questions in 2 hours is about a minute each, a little faster than the SAT overall.
- The best way to know: take one practice test of each and compare the converted scores below.
